I absolutely get bewildered when tech positions require financial or medical or government experience. It’s tech. Love that line of yours that I highlighted.

The first startup I ever worked for, a tech firm called Financial Dynamics, rejected me at first because while I had the tech, they had this plan to hire smart folks from more right-brained backgrounds, like philosophy majors and design majors. It worked until it didn’t (and I leaned on my English minor to get in). But it made me a believer in the artistic side of business. Haven’t read that book, but I may seek it out.

Creativity and thinking on your feet is so huge in startup. One of my most used pieces of advice is do not use someone else’s plan — from everything from funding the company to growth strategy and scaling. There is no one true path in startup.
