At some point the returns diminish with way too many people. If you're doing it to create real friendships that will be few and far between and if you're totally throwing the "usefulness" of those friendships out of the equation, it's a good thing. Which is why I do exactly what you're saying, but I don't recommend it as a strategy or anything.
