I Answered Over 200 Entrepreneur’s Questions. Here’s What I Learned About Startup Advice
It’s not about accelerators or cult-hero worship
On May 1, 2020, I launched the Teaching Startup beta, my project to democratize startup advice by making it universal, affordable, and most importantly, useful. Today, as we release Issue #100 of Teaching Startup’s companion newsletter to our ever-growing membership, I realize I’ve personally answered over 200 entrepreneur’s questions — from first-timers to serial founders.
It’s been an amazing journey, and a fun one. And I’ve learned a lot about why most startup advice channels fail most entrepreneurs.
See, the original idea for Teaching Startup was built on my 15 years spent as a formal advisor to various VC-backed startups. At any given time, a handful of companies pay me (a good amount) to access my decades of experience building high-growth companies and products from the ground up.
Then about three years ago, I started focusing my startup and innovation writing here on Medium, and the results were pretty encouraging. While my formal advising could help a few startups a lot, this writing channel gets millions of views, likely helping a lot of startups a little bit.
